BMC decides to increase vaccination to 1 lakh per day

Amid a huge spike in coronavirus cases in Mumbai, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to ramp up COVID-19 testing and increase the availability of beds at COVID Care Centres.

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal on Thursday said that the civic body has decided to gear up the total availability of DCHC/DCH COVID beds in Mumbai from 13,773 (out of which 5,140 are vacant) to 21,000 beds in the next 15 days.

The BMC is also looking forward to increasing the daily testing to more than 60,000 in the coming weeks.

“Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai has resolved to take up testing to more than 60,000 per day in coming weeks. We have completed 10 lakh vaccinations today and have resolved to increase vaccinations to 1 lakh per day in Mumbai,” Chahal added.

He further said that the BMC is in full control of the situation and is confident of controlling the pandemic, adding that there is no need for the citizens to worry.

“Considering the adequate health infrastructure and extremely low mortality rate (total of 200 deaths between February 10 and March 24, which is average of 4.6 deaths per day and a mortality rate of 0.3 per cent of the total positive cases in this period i.e, 56,220, there is no cause for panic or worry in the city of Mumbai and MCGM is in full control of the situation and confident of controlling the pandemic in due course of time,” said Chahal.
