Days after writing to Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister Ramdas Athawale on Thursday met President Ram Nath Kovind and demanded that Presidential Rule be imposed in Maharashtra.
“I met President Kovind and gave him a memorandum on behalf of RPI (A) party demanding President’s Rule in Maharashtra,” Athawale said.
Stating that it is a serious matter (corruption allegations against Home Minister Anil Deshmukh), the Union Minister said, “No inquiry can take place until the Maharashtra government is removed.”
The RPI leader also claimed that the President said that he will consider it.
A few days ago, he urged Amit Shah for a detailed investigation into the allegations made by Param Bir Singh letter against the Maharashtra Home Minister.
He had also cited the state’s “deteriorating” law and order situation.
While some BJP leaders have been demanding President’s Rule, a delegation of Opposition, led by Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday met Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari to seek the report from Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and send it to President Kovind.
