Sale of platform tickets in Mumbai stopped from today

As the city of Mumbai continues touching new heights in the number of coronavirus cases with each passing day, the Central Railway has decided to stop the sale of platform tickets at several major railway stations with immediate effect.

Chief Public Relations Officer, CR, Shivaji Sutar informed that the stations where platform tickets will not be given from today are Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Dadar, Thane, Kalyan and Panvel.

This comes on the heels of scores of migrant workers travelling back to their hometowns in the past few days, worried over rising COVID-19 numbers in the city and state.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra cabinet minister Vijay Wadettiwar told media persons on Thursday that the state is mulling imposing stringent restrictions and curbs on Mumbai local trains.

He said that the state government had decided to resume local trains as people were losing out on their jobs. But ever since services have resumed, a spike has been observed in the number of daily COVID-19 cases.
