A huge quantity of beef was seized by the police in Maharashtra’s Bhiwandi on Wednesday.

Acting on a tip-off, the cops intercepted the vehicle and seized 1,200 kg beef worth Rs 1.44 lakh.

The police also arrested a 23-year-old driver after the vehicle was stopped at Vadpe Naka in Bhiwandi.

The beef was being transported from Ahmednagar. The consignment was to be delivered at Govandi.

The driver of the vehicle has been booked under provisions of the IPC and Animals Protection Act.

A month ago, a consignment of 1,500 kg beef was seized after a tempo was stopped for checking on Mumbai-Nashik Highway.

Cow slaughter and beef transport are banned in the state of Maharashtra.
