Seven fishermen who were trapped in a burning fishing boat near Karwar were rescued late on Friday. The Indian Coast Guard saved the crew of IFB Varda Vinayaka-I after the boat caught fire due to a short circuit in wheel house, according to a press release.

Seven members of a household suffered severe burns due to a cylinder blast in a Jigani household in Anekal taluk of Bangalore Urban district. Of the seven, two individuals suffered minor injuries and the others (3 males and 2 females) suffered severe burns. All the patients are being treated at Ace Suhas Multispecialty Hospital in Jigani.

The ones who suffered severe burns are labourers while the two who suffered minor injuries are localites. Of the five patients, two men of around 40 years suffer from airway burns and a 38-year-old woman suffered grade II burns. They are being treated at the ICU. The other two — a 21-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman — suffered 20 to 25% burns. They are being treated in the ward.

Dr, Jagadish Hiremath, Medical Director at Ace Suhas Multispecialty Hospital and Chairman at Aasra, said: “We are treating them currently. Going forward, they may have to undergo multiple surgeries to rectify the defects caused by burns. As of now, 3 patients are out of danger with manageable burns. 2 have airway burns and we would need 48 hours to declare them safe.”
