Maldivian President Accorded with State Reception by Maha Governor

The Governor of Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshyari received Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai on Wednesday, 3rd August 2022.

The Maldivian President arrived at Raj Bhavan with a high-level delegation. The delegation included Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer, Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail and Foreign Secretary Ahmed Latheef.

After a formal introduction and meeting, the Governor hosted a State Banquet in honour of the visiting President and his delegation at Raj Bhavan. As a memento, the Governor presented a Tea set hand-painted by tribal artists from Maharashtra to the visiting dignitary.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Director of Birla Group Rajashree Birla, CMD of Hiranandani Group Niranjan Hiranandani, State Chief Secretary Manukumar Srivastava and Director General of Police Rajnish Seth were prominent among those present.

It may be noted that President Solih visited Dada Saheb Phalke Filmcity at Goregaon in Mumbai suburban, a huge traffic jam was reported at Western Express Highway on Wednesday morning due to the VVIP movement. The Mumbai Traffic police had put out a traffic alert late on Tuesday night and many motorists who were not aware got stuck in the traffic for over an hour. The traffic movement continued to be slow till afternoon.

In a kind gesture Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended an additional $100 million line of credit to the Maldives. Following bilateral talks between PM Modi and President of Maldives Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, India and Maldives signed six pacts to facilitate cooperation in capacity building, cyber security, housing, disaster management, and infrastructure. Solih also reiterated his country’s “firm commitment to deal with the threat of terrorism.”
