Newly appointed US Consul General meets Maharashtra Governor

The newly appointed Consul General of the United States of America in Mumbai, His Excellency Mike Hankey met Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai.

The Consul General discussed his plans and priorities to promote bilateral cooperation with India. He told the Governor that more than 62000 student visas were issued from India last year. Stating that Indian students going to US for studies are goodwill ambassadors of the United States, he said his country is keen to achieve the target of 1 lakh students next year.

Along with Consul General, Christopher Brown, Consul for Political and Economic Affairs and Priyanka Visaria – Nayak, Political Advisor to the U. S. Consulate General were also present.

It may be noted that Mike Hankey assumed the post of Consul General of the United States in Mumbai on August 07, 2022, succeeding former Consul General David J. Ranz.

Immediately prior to coming to Mumbai, Consul General Hankey served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Amman; prior to that, he headed the Palestinian Affairs Unit at the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem. A career diplomat since 2001, Consul General Hankey’s previous assignments include postings in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iraq, Yemen, and Nigeria.
