Taking great social initiative to strengthen Indo – China relationship and one on one connection with both the countries, the China Consulate General in Mumbai will establish “Dr Kotnis Friendship School” in Solapur, hometown of Dr. Kotnis. The Consul General of the People’s Republic of China His Excellency Kong Xianhua announced this during 80th Death Anniversary event which was held in Mumbai.
His Excellency, Kong Xianhua, CG of China Consulate in Mumbai said “Dr Kotnis’s behaviour makes us aware that a good China-India relationship is promoted by the people and should benefit the people in the end. To carry forward his spirit, the CG in Mumbai will work with Solapur Municipality to establish Dr Kotnis Friendship School. He added that nine Chinese investment companies have expressed the intent to support the project.
Dr. Dwarkanath Shantaram Kotnis (1910-1942), was popularly known as Dr. Kotnis. Kotnis was among the five Indian doctors who were sent to help during the Second Sino-Japanese War in 1938. Even today, Dr. Kotnis is considered a symbol of friendship between India and China. Every year, the Qingming Festival is organized in China to remember the martyrs. Now an initiative is going to be taken to make the debt of the Chinese people immortal and to maintain India-China friendship. Chinese Consulate General to set up ‘Dr. Kotnis Friendship School’ in Solapur. Solapur is the hometown of Dr. Kotnis. He added that nine Chinese investment companies have expressed the intent to support the project.
