The French Institute in India -( Institut français India – IFI), in collaboration with Goa University, announced the organization of the International Training for Teachers of French 2023. The event took place from May 22nd to May 26th, 2023 in Goa and welcomed approximately 70 Teachers of French from India and neighbouring countries.
The opening ceremony was held on May 22nd, 2023, in the presence of His Excellency Jean-Marc Séré-Charlet, the Consul General of France in Mumbai, and Prof. Harilal B. Menon, the Vice-Chancellor of Goa University. The event concluded with a closing convocation ceremony on May 26th, 2023, attended by Sami Bouakaze, the Deputy Consul of France in Mumbai.
The program covered a variety of teaching methodology topics, including introducing the Francophone world in French language classes, using phonetics to improve pronunciation, developing systematic and efficient lesson plans adapted to Indian language classes, teaching grammar in an action-oriented approach, developing learners’ oral skills, and using assessment to enhance the learning process.
His Excellency Jean-Marc Séré-Charlet, Consul General of France in Mumbai, said, “The International Training Program organized in Goa by the French Institute in India aims to enhance the French language teaching skills of the participants. The best way to inspire learners is to have highly trained French language teachers who can unlock the richness of Francophone culture across all five continents.” He further added, “I am extremely pleased that Goa University is collaborating with the Institut Francais in India to organize this prestigious International French Teachers Training Program on the campus of Goa University.”
Prof. Harilal B. Menon, Vice-Chancellor of Goa University, emphasized the significance of empowering teachers with the skills and knowledge to inspire future generations of global citizens through language education. He stated, “Our International French Teachers Training Program equips educators with the necessary tools to create an immersive and engaging learning environment that prepares students for success in a diverse and interconnected world.”
Ms. Fatiha Kammoussi, Attaché for Cooperation in Education at the French Institute India, expressed her joy in hosting this important training program for French language teachers at Goa University. She mentioned, “This year’s event represents a significant step in promoting French language teaching and learning in India and its neighbouring countries.”
The International Training for Teachers of French is one of the most sought-after and significant programs organized by the French Institute in India. This year marked its 8th edition since its inception in 2015. Throughout the week, all participants attended a 30-hour training program consisting of two 15-hour modules, focusing on specific aspects of teaching methodology. The training program was conducted by four expert trainers from France and India.
