Maharashtra Governor welcoming Malaysian High Commissioner H.E. Muzafar Shah Mustafa.

Newly appointed Malaysia’s high commissioner to India, His Excellency Muzafar Shah Mustafa, met the Governor of Maharashtra Ramesh Bais at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai on 30th May 2024.  He was accompanied by Consul General of Malaysia in Mumbai H.E. Ahmad Zuwairi Yusoff and investment, trade and tourism delegation.

Both dignitaries held discussions on various subjects.  The H.C. spoke about enhancing relations with India in various areas like Digital Economy, Tourism, Science – Technology and Palm plantation. He informed that the Malaysian Prime Minister is likely to visit India and would also visit Mumbai.

High Commissioner highlighted that Malaysia has more than 50 years of experience in semiconductor manufacturing and in the field of digital economy. We are cooperating through the Malaysia-India Digital Cooperation Council.

He also informed that Last year 7 lakh Indian tourists visited Malaysia and more are expected to visit this year too. He informed that Malaysian tourism offices are opened in Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai. Malaysia is a popular tourist and wedding destination; it attracts Indian tourists in terms of wedding destination and golf destination.

The High Commissioner said that “Malaysia is exports 30 lakh tonnes of palm oil to India every year. Malaysia is trying to dispel the misconceptions people have about palm oil even though it is an edible oil and convince them that palm oil is good for health.

He added “Palm oil can meet the population’s need for edible oil as the world’s population continues to grow. The palm plantation is also beneficial for farmers as one hectare of area produces 8 tons of palm oil for thirty years.

The Governor of Maharashtra highlighted that “India has announced a new foreign trade policy and expressed the hope that Malaysia will increase cooperation with India in digital economy, renewable energy, semiconductor manufacturing and start-up sectors in addition to traditional sectors”.

The governor also said that. “India has emerged as the world’s drug manufacturing hub and the two countries should also increase cooperation in the fields of generic drug manufacturing, vaccine development and mobility of health workers”.
