Fairfield by Marriott International Airport hosted a grand gala event on June 16th, 2024, celebrating the rich culinary heritage of Sri Lanka. The event, titled “Savour Sri Lanka”, took place at the hotel’s renowned restaurant, Mado Mado, and was a spectacular success.
The Sri Lankan Food Festival was launched by His Excellency Dr. Valsan Vethody, Consul General of Sri Lanka in Mumbai. The event was attended by several Consul Generals including H.E. Kobi Shoshani CG of Israel, H.E. Yagi Koji CG of Japan and H.E. Cüneyt Yavuzcan CG of Turkey, H.E. Dooshant K Bucktowar consul and Head of Mission – Mauritius, H.E. Davoud Rezaei Eskandari Acting CG of Iran, H.E Kim Young-og CG of Korea, H.E Gustavo Gonzalez, CG of Chile, Gong Pu Vice Consul of China, H.E Murphy Bergstrom Vice Consul of USA in Mumbai, John Nader GSO US Consulate, and diplomats of various countries like UK and Russia were also present.
Savour Sri Lanka food festival showcased the vibrant and diverse Flavors of Sri Lankan cuisine, with a menu crafted by specially flown-in Sri Lankan chefs who collaborated with the in-house chefs at Marriott. Guests were treated to an array of authentic Sri Lankan dishes, meticulously prepared to offer a true taste of the island nation. The event was further enriched by captivating performances from traditional Sri Lankan dancers, who mesmerized the guests with their beautiful and intricate dance forms, adding an authentic cultural touch to the evening.
H.E. Dr. Valsan Vethody, Consul General of Sri Lanka speaking to Mumbai Messenger said “We are delighted to hold the Sri Lankan food festival at Fairfield by Marriott hotel in Mumbai. It’s a marvellous delicacy curated by Sri Lankan Chefs and dance show performance by Sri Lankan artists are classic examples of two nations relationship. All Diplomats and guests were happy to attend this event. We are planning to host more food festivals in various hotels of Mumbai in a period to promote Sri Lankan food and culture”.
Ajoy Balakrishna, Vice President of Balwa Group and General Manager of Fairfield By Marriott, played the perfect host for the evening. The gala evening was not just a feast for the taste buds but also a significant networking opportunity, attended by notable personalities from various walks of life, including business tycoons, politicians, sports personalities, and entertainment industry figures. Among the prominent attendees was film and TV producer Mr. Dheeraj Kumar.
