Customs officials at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International (CSMI) Airport in Mumbai successfully intercepted a passenger on April 1st, 2025, arriving from Nairobi via Doha (QR1342/6E1304) based on spot profiling techniques. The passenger underwent a thorough examination, leading to the seizure of a significant quantity of drugs.

Upon inspection, the Customs officers discovered a white, powdery substance concealed in the false cavity of the passenger’s trolley bag. Further tests confirmed the substance to be Cocaine, with a net weight of approximately 1789 grams. The estimated street value of the narcotics was a staggering Rs. 17.89 crore (Rs. 17,89,00,000).

The passenger, whose identity has been withheld for legal reasons, was immediately arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. This act is designed to combat drug trafficking and ensure strict enforcement of drug laws in India.

The Customs officers at CSMI Airport have commended their efforts in detecting the sophisticated drug smuggling operation. The incident highlights the crucial role of spot profiling and vigilant examination in identifying and preventing illegal activities at major international airports.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the full extent of the smuggling operation, including the source and destination of the drugs, as well as any potential network involved. The authorities are also looking into how the drugs were smuggled into India and whether the passenger was acting as part of a larger syndicate.

The seizure underscores the importance of heightened vigilance by law enforcement agencies, especially at international airports, to prevent the trafficking of illegal substances and ensure the safety and well-being of the public. Customs officials have reiterated their commitment to taking strong actions against such crimes, demonstrating their zero-tolerance policy toward narcotics trafficking.
