The Government of India is pleased to announce the resumption of the revered Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, set to begin on June 30, 2025, after a five-year suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The pilgrimage will once again follow its traditional route through Lipulekh Pass in Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh district, situated at an altitude of 17,000 feet.

The yatra, one of the most spiritually significant journeys for Hindus, paused since 2020, will resume thanks to the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. Coordinated with the Ministry of External Affairs and Uttarakhand government, final arrangements have been made to ensure a safe and organized pilgrimage, with Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN) appointed as the official organizing body.

In the 2025 edition, 250 pilgrims will be allowed to participate, divided into five groups of 50. The first batch is scheduled to cross into China via Lipulekh Pass on July 10, with the final group expected to return by August 22. Each group will undertake a 22-day itinerary starting from Delhi, with halts at Tanakpur, Dharchula, Gunji, and Nabhidang before entering Tibet through Taklakot.

Comprehensive health screenings will be conducted in Delhi and Gunji to ensure all pilgrims are physically prepared for the demanding high-altitude conditions. The return journey will include stops in Bundi, Chaukori, and Almora, before concluding in Delhi.

Located in the Tibet Autonomous Region, Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar are deeply revered by Hindus, who believe that circumambulating Mount Kailash and bathing in Lake Manasarovar leads to spiritual liberation. The resumption of the yatra marks a significant milestone for spiritual tourism and underscores the Government of India’s commitment to preserving and promoting cultural and religious heritage.
