Jamavar Dubai, a Modern Indian restaurant has been awarded its first Michelin star within just one year of opening, marking a significant achievement for the city’s vibrant dining scene. The accolade was announced at the 2025 MICHELIN Guide Dubai ceremony.
Jamavar, co-founded by restaurateur Samyukta Nair and culinary director Chef Surender Mohan, joins the growing list of Indian cuisine establishments gaining global recognition. This milestone follows the success of Tresind Studio, which made headlines by winning three Michelin stars earlier this year.
Building on the legacy of Jamavar’s Michelin-starred locations in London (2022) and Doha (2024), the Dubai branch celebrates India’s rich culinary heritage. Situated within the Address Residences in Dubai’s Opera District, Jamavar aims to bring the spirit of the Indian subcontinent to the heart of Downtown Dubai.
Inspired by treasured family recipes from the Nair lineage and deep-rooted Indian hospitality traditions, the kitchen, led by executive head chef Purushottam Naidu under the guidance of chef Mohan, highlights the diversity of Indian cuisine — from the regal dishes of the North to the spice-rich coastal flavours of the South.
Jamavar offers a refined interpretation of traditional recipes using authentic techniques, delivering a sophisticated exploration of pan-Indian flavours.
“To be recognised by the MICHELIN Guide with a star within our first year of opening is a moment of immense pride, not just for our team, but for Indian cuisine as a whole,” said Samyukta Nair. “It’s a dream come true to see the flavours of India take centre stage on a platform as prestigious as MICHELIN, and it fuels our continued commitment to represent our heritage with authenticity and artistry.”
Chef Surender Mohan added, “We are proud to take Indian cuisine to new heights and celebrate its richness and complexity through Jamavar. This recognition affirms our belief that Indian food belongs at the pinnacle of global gastronomy.”
Jamavar, co-founded by acclaimed restaurateur Samyukta Nair, has established itself as a global symbol of excellence in Indian fine dining. After Jamavar London earned a Michelin star just eight months after opening in 2022, the brand continued its upward trajectory with Jamavar Doha receiving a star in 2024, followed by Jamavar Dubai achieving the same milestone within its first year in 2025. A third-generation hotelier from the distinguished Nair family—founders of The Leela Palaces—Samyukta has expanded her culinary portfolio with several acclaimed Mayfair restaurants, including Bombay Bustle, MiMi Mei Fair, KOYN, and Socca Bistro. Known for her dedication to authenticity, cultural richness, and refined hospitality, she was named Restaurateur of the Year at the 2023 National Restaurant Awards.
