The 80th Foundation Day of the People’s Education Society, established by Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, was marked by a grand celebration at the Yashwantrao Chavan Centre on Tuesday, July 8, in the presence of Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan.
On the occasion, the Governor presented the “Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Award” to 22 distinguished individuals, including two notable alumni of the Society — Maharashtra’s Minister for Higher and Technical Education Chandrakant Patil and Minister for Social Justice Sanjay Shirsat — in recognition of their outstanding contributions to their respective fields.
Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale, Society Trustees Adv. Ujjwal Nikam and Adv. B.K. Barve, and other dignitaries were in attendance.
Among those felicitated were popular actor Bhau Kadam, actress Kranti Redkar, Buddhist monks Bhadant Dr Rahul Bodhi and Dhammadeep Bhante from South Korea, Director of Higher Education Shailendra Deolankar, and educationist Baliram Gaikwad.
