In a heartfelt appeal to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Shiv Sena Deputy Leader and former MLA Krishna Hegde has proposed renaming the popular Carter Road promenade in Bandra (West) in honor of Bollywood legend Rajesh Khanna.

In an official letter dated August 20, 2025, Hegde requested that the promenade carry the late actor’s name. He also urged the state government to install a statue and commemorative plaque to celebrate Khanna’s immense contribution to Indian cinema.

Hegde emphasized the emotional and cultural significance of the move, noting that Rajesh Khanna lived for much of his life in the iconic ‘Aashirwad’ bungalow, located directly opposite the proposed site. “This gesture from the MCGM to honor one of the greats of Indian cinema will feature as a landmark tourist attraction for present and future generations,” Hegde wrote in his letter.

If approved, the renaming would not only pay tribute to one of India’s first superstars but also transform the promenade into a notable cultural and tourist landmark, attracting fans and visitors alike.

The proposal is currently under consideration at the Chief Minister’s Office, and fans nationwide are eagerly awaiting a positive response to what could be a fitting homage to one of Bollywood’s most beloved stars.
