Philately Day observed at Mumbai GPO with special releases, events

As part of National Postal Week 2025 celebrations (6th–10th October), the Maharashtra Postal Circle marked Philately Day with a special event at the Mumbai GPO Heritage Building. The function was presided over by Shri Amitabh Singh, Chief Postmaster General, Maharashtra Circle.

  To commemorate the occasion, a Special Cancellation on Philately Day was released, along with a book titled India Post Cards 1949–2025 by renowned philatelist Shri Pratisad Neurgaonkar, tracing the evolution of Indian postcards and their cultural significance.

  The event also featured Ranisaheb Shubhadadevi Bhonsle of the Sawantwadi Royal Family, who spoke about the heritage of Sawantwadi Ganjifa cards, a traditional Indian art form. A special set of ten Picture Postcards on Sawantwadi Ganjifa Cards, depicting the Dashavatara (Ten Incarnations of Lord Vishnu), was launched by the Chief Postmaster General, accompanied by a Special Cancellation.

  In his address, Shri Amitabh Singh highlighted the Department of Posts’ ongoing efforts to preserve India’s artistic legacy and inspire younger generations through philately.

  The event was graced by members of the Royal Family of Sawantwadi and senior postal officers including Ms. Jayati Samaddar, Shri Manoj Kumar, Smt. Kaiya Arora, Ms. Simran Kaur, and Smt. Rekha Q.A. Rizvi. Eminent philatelists and enthusiasts attended the celebration, commending India Post’s initiatives to blend heritage, culture, and creativity through philately.
