Chinese Consulate in Mumbai Hosts Spring Festival 2026 Reception

The Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Mumbai hosted a Spring Festival 2026 reception on Wednesday evening, bringing together diplomats, senior government officials, business leaders, cultural figures and members of the Indian community to mark the Chinese Lunar New Year.

The reception was hosted by Qin Jie, Consul General of China in Mumbai, at the rooftop venue of Trident Hotel. The event highlighted the role of cultural diplomacy in strengthening people-to-people ties between India and China.

Several senior officials from the Government of Maharashtra were present on the occasion, including Dr. Prashant Narnawre IAS, Secretary to the Governor of Maharashtra, Umesh Kashikar, Public Relations Officer to the Government of Maharashtra, and Milind Hardas, Protocol Officer of the state government.

The evening featured a range of cultural performances showcasing traditional Chinese art forms. Guests enjoyed classical music presentations, folk dance performances and an energetic kung fu show, which received warm appreciation from the audience. The performances reflected the cultural richness and festive spirit associated with the Spring Festival.

Addressing the gathering, Consul General Qin Jie underscored the importance of cultural exchange in fostering mutual understanding. “The Spring Festival symbolizes harmony, unity and renewal. Cultural exchanges such as this reception help bring the people of China and India closer and strengthen the foundation of our friendship,” he said. He also noted Mumbai’s important role as a bridge for expanding cooperation in culture, trade and tourism.

The reception concluded with informal interactions among guests, reflecting the celebratory mood of the Lunar New Year and reaffirming the significance of cultural engagement in international relations.
