Senior military and civil service officers from India and friendly nations visited Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma at Lok Bhavan as part of their study tour during ongoing training in Economic Diplomacy at the National Defence College.
The delegation included Brigadier-level officers from the Indian Navy, Air Force, and Army, as well as senior officials from the Revenue Service. Officers from allied countries such as Russia, Oman, Indonesia, Nigeria, Nepal, and Tanzania also participated, reflecting the programme’s emphasis on international cooperation and strategic exchange. The visit was led by Major General Harkirat Singh, Senior Faculty at the National Defence College.
During the meeting, Governor Varma highlighted the importance of collaborative learning and cross-border dialogue in economic diplomacy, noting that understanding diverse administrative frameworks strengthens international partnerships. The officers were briefed on Maharashtra’s governance, economic initiatives, and social development programmes, offering them a first-hand perspective on effective state-level policy implementation.
Analysts say such engagements are more than ceremonial. They provide officers with insights into practical governance models, strategic economic planning, and international collaboration, which can inform future policymaking in their home countries. This blend of military, civil service, and international perspectives underlines India’s commitment to fostering diplomatic and security linkages through knowledge-sharing initiatives.
