Perched on the 37th floor of The St. Regis Mumbai, By The Mekong offers one of the most spectacular dining settings in the city, with sweeping views that make guests feel as though they are seated above Mumbai itself. Landmarks such as Nariman Point, Marine Drive and the Coastal Road are clearly visible, while the opposite side reveals a dramatic panorama of skyscrapers and the city’s ever-evolving skyline. As dusk settles and the city lights begin to sparkle, the view becomes even more captivating.
The experience begins the moment guests arrive. No sooner do they step into the restaurant than they are warmly welcomed and escorted to their table, setting the tone for an evening defined by refined hospitality and attention to detail.
A highly acclaimed Asian dining destination, By The Mekong has earned recognition for its culinary excellence and guest experience. The restaurant’s sophisticated ambience makes it equally suited for intimate dinners and special celebrations. Complementing the cuisine is an extensive beverage programme featuring a wide selection of wines, premium spirits and expertly crafted cocktails.
Under the leadership of Paul Kinny, Director of Culinary at The St. Regis Mumbai, and the expertise of Chef Li Qiang from China’s Shandong province, By The Mekong presents a menu that balances authenticity with contemporary flair. As a vegetarian, I found the offerings remarkably accommodating. The meal commenced with Radish Cake, Edamame Truffle Dumplings and Spicy Jackfruit Dumplings, each showcasing distinct flavours and meticulous craftsmanship.
The cocktail selection was equally noteworthy, with highlights including Earthen Spirit, OX Rica & Tonic and the classic Negroni. For the main course, the Hong Kong Noodles and Mapo Tofu delivered authentic flavours with refined presentation. The evening concluded with Cacao 64, a dessert that struck a fine balance between richness and elegance.
What truly distinguishes By The Mekong, however, is its commitment to service. Anwaiy Gaware, an F&B Executive, demonstrated an in-depth knowledge of the menu and ingredients while looking after my table. His ability to explain the stories behind the dishes and beverages added an engaging dimension to the meal. In an industry where service is paramount, Restaurant Director Bruno Fuentes, a hospitality professional from Spain, along with Akshay Sikri and Shriraj Goswami, Director of Food & Beverage, were regularly seen interacting with guests, understanding their preferences and ensuring every diner felt valued.
Combining exceptional cuisine, attentive service and breathtaking views, By The Mekong delivers a memorable fine-dining experience. For those seeking an unforgettable evening above Mumbai’s skyline, it remains one of the city’s most compelling dining destinations.
