The Department of Posts, Maharashtra Circle, felicitated winners of the National Level ‘Dhai Akhar’ Letter Writing Competition 2025-26 and the Philately Scholarship Scheme “Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana” 2025-26 at a function held at Mumbai GPO.
The ‘Dhai Akhar’ competition was organised to encourage creativity, self-expression and letter-writing among citizens while introducing younger generations to the world of postal communication and philately. Conducted between September 8, 2025 and January 31, 2026, the competition invited participants to write on the theme “Letter to My Role Model” in English, Hindi or any vernacular language. Maharashtra Circle recorded an impressive participation of 1,83,049 entries across four categories. Circle-level winners were selected for further evaluation at the national level.
The event also honoured recipients of the Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana, a nationwide scholarship programme launched by the Department of Posts to promote philately among school students. This year, 3,570 students from Classes VI to IX participated in the Philately Quiz. After evaluation and project submissions, 40 students were selected for scholarships of ₹6,000 per annum.
The awards were presented by Amitabh Singh, Chief Postmaster General, Maharashtra Circle, in the presence of Saurabh Vijayvergia, Founder and CEO of CoverSure, Jayati Samaddar, General Manager (Finance), Maharashtra Circle, and Rekha Rizvi, Director, Mumbai GPO.
Addressing the gathering, Amitabh Singh praised the creativity and talent of the winners and highlighted the role of letter writing in connecting generations. He noted that despite the rise of digital communication, India Post continues to remain relevant through its postal and parcel services. He also appreciated CoverSure’s “Chitthi Aayi Hai” initiative for using Inland Letters to deliver insurance-related information to citizens.
