BEST to Revamp Bus Services, Add AC Routes Across Mumbai from Oct.5
By Sitaram Mewati | Mumbai

Mumbai’s public transport network is set for a series of changes from October 5, with the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking modifying several bus routes, adding services on selected corridors and converting eight regular routes into air-conditioned services.

The changes are aimed at streamlining operations, responding to passenger demand and improving frequency on busy routes. BEST will modify 14 services as part of the restructuring.

Eight routes—153, 223, 242, 249, 266, 312, 423 and C-505—will be converted to AC services. Additional services will also be introduced on routes A-42, A-245 and A-276 during specified hours to strengthen connectivity and help manage passenger demand.

Several routes will also be modified or extended. Routes A-22, A-35 and A-39 will terminate at SEEPZ Bus Station instead of Majas Depot, while A-200 will be extended from Wadala Depot to Shravan Yashwante Chowk in Kala Chowki.

Route A-433 will also see a change in its operation, with the service travelling towards Andheri Station (West) via Barfiwala Flyover and continuing to Juhu Vile Parle Bus Station. Other services, including A-315, A-419 and A-427, will undergo operational changes. BEST has also decided to discontinue A-471 between Borivali Station (East) and Ghatkopar Depot following low passenger response, according to reports.

The latest restructuring forms part of BEST’s ongoing efforts to align its bus network with changing travel patterns across Mumbai. The combination of route adjustments, additional services and AC conversions is expected to provide commuters with more options and improved comfort on selected corridors. The revised services will come into effect from October 5, 2026, across the affected routes.
