The Governor of Maharashtra Ramesh Bais felicitated Somnath Mukherjee, Senior Vice President Operations, Taj Hotel Group (IHCL) along with other prominent Bengalis, during Bengal’s formation Day. The Governor of Maharashtra Ramesh Bais organized and presided over the formation day of the State of West Bengal at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai on Tuesday, 20th June, 2023.

 On the occasion of West Bengal Foundation Day, the Governor felicitated several stalwarts of the Bengali community living in Mumbai. The esteemed veterans included Somnath Mukherjee, Senior Vice President Operations, Taj Hotel Group, Swami Satyadevananda Maharaj, President of Ramakrishna Math and Mission, Tabla maestro Pandit Nayan Ghosh, Joy Chakraborty, Chief Operating Officer of Hinduja Hospital, Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Director of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, Surgery Professor Dr. Gautam Sen, Director of Singapore International School Sharoni Malik and Founder of Srijan Foundation Kamalini Guha Thakurta.

 West Bengal Foundation Day was celebrated in Maharashtra Raj Bhavan for the very first time. The event was a part of the ‘Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat’ initiative of Government of India. In this prestigious event the Governor significantly appreciated the contribution of Bengalis in the socio-economic and cultural development of Mumbai and Maharashtra.

During this event, a colourful cultural program consisting of Bengali songs, dance and Rabindra Sangeet were also presented. It was presented in collaboration with the Srijan Foundation. All the dignitaries who were attending the event mesmerized and encouraged all the artists with thunderous applause.

In his address, His Excellency the Governor mentioned the special contribution of Bengalis to Maharashtra, Mumbai and India. The Governor said that West Bengal has played an important role in the freedom struggle of the country and it has given many visionary and prominent leaders like Subhash Chandra Bose, Rabindranath Tagore, Surendranath Banerjee and Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee to name a few. India’s National anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’ written by Rabindra Nath Tagore is the gift of the Bengal state to the Nation. country of India.

 Many prominent members of the Bengali community from Mumbai were present.
