The cultural exchange between nations often serves as a bridge that connects diverse societies, allowing them to appreciate and understand each other’s uniqueness. In an exciting testament to this notion, The Embassy of France in India, Alliances Française de Pune, and Savitribai Phule Pune University are delighted to present the avant-garde theatre play “Our Daily Performance” to the discerning audience of Pune on 29 Aug 23, 7 PM onwards at Namdev Sabhagruh, Pune University. This theatrical masterpiece, a highlight from the prestigious Avignon 2022 Festival, embodies the commitment of Alliances Françaises to foster Franco-Indian cultural connections and bring the finest of French arts and culture to Indian shores.
At the helm of this artistic venture are Giuseppe Chico and Barbara Matijević, the creative minds who not only orchestrated the play but also infused it with their visionary concepts. Supported by a dynamic ensemble of actors, dancers, acrobats, and musicians – a symphony of diverse talents – “Our Daily Performance” casts a spell over the audience. Drawing inspiration from a plethora of YouTube tutorials, the creators ingeniously craft a narrative that offers fresh and animated perspectives on navigating the complexities of modern life. Through playful twists, a subtle undercurrent of wit, and a generous sprinkle of humor, the play transforms into a platform for insightful life lessons. It’s akin to a living guide, enhancing the rhythm of everyday existence, brought to life through riveting performances.
This theatrical gem not only captured the hearts of the Avignon 2022 audience, a legendary festival for performing arts in the South of France held annually, but also earned high praise from French critics. Libération lauds it as “Very clever, jesting, delightfully pop, yet with subtly dark humour, that prevails.” Télérama ranks it as their top pick from the Avignon 2022 festival, while La Provence dubs it “Our Daily Performance, a brilliant UFO in the world of performance arts.”
For those seeking an immersive blend of culture, humor, profound insights, and sheer talent, “Our Daily Performance” offers an experience that must not be missed. The play promises to rejuvenate perceptions of the mundane, illuminating the extraordinary that lies within the ordinary.
Alliances Française de Pune, renowned for its promotion of cultural ties between France and India, continues its proud legacy through the presentation of iconic productions that embody the essence of French culture. “Our Daily Performance” inaugurates an exhilarating cultural season lasting until December 2023, featuring an array of performing arts productions, including contemporary dance, circus acts, and music. These shows will not only provide artistic enrichment but also serve as a platform for workshops, facilitating collaborative exchanges between French and Pune professionals, fostering stronger relationships in the arts, and inspiring future collaborations.
The “Our Daily Performance” troupe will conduct an insightful workshop in Pune on the 28th of August, collaborating with Hrishikesh Pawar, a luminary in contemporary dance. The workshop will involve students from Lalit Kala Kendra, Savitribai Phule Pune University, and other professional artists from Pune. Led by the artist Nicolas Maloufi, the workshop is hosted by Pawar in his dance studio at JM Road. This initiative aims to establish a deeper connection between artists and the local audience, enriching their stay in Pune.
The success of this remarkable tour is greatly indebted to Pernod Ricard India, Mahindra, Sanofi, Saint-Gobain India, and Ibis – whose generous support has played an instrumental role in bringing this extraordinary cultural experience to fruition.
In the grand tapestry of Franco-Indian cultural fusion, “Our Daily Performance” stands as a vibrant thread, weaving together narratives, talents, and aspirations. This play is not merely an event but a celebration of the deep-rooted connections that art fosters among diverse cultures, proving that when creativity knows no borders, magic ensues on and off the stage.
