A delegation of 15 officials from the Sri Lankan Supreme Court successfully completed a four-day training program at the Supreme Court (SC) of India from May 9th to May 13th. This initiative marks a significant step in the ongoing collaboration and knowledge exchange between the judicial systems of India and Sri Lanka.This initiative not only promotes the exchange of knowledge and best practices but also strengthens the bilateral ties and mutual commitment to judicial innovation and excellence.
The delegates were introduced to various aspects of the technological and digital transformation undertaken by SC. The Key topics included the e-Courts projects and the digitalization of court processes such as filing, listing, scrutiny, scanning, and record keeping.
Senior Registrars from the Registry played a pivotal role in this training, they explained the nuances of these technological advancements and demonstrated the systems in place. These demonstrations highlighted how the SC of India has leveraged technology to improve accessibility, streamline processes, and ensure greater transparency in judicial proceedings.
The e-Courts project was a focal point of the training. This project, initiated to digitize the functioning of courts across India, includes various components such as electronic filing (e-filing), case management systems, and virtual courtrooms. The SL delegates were shown how these systems operate and contribute to a more efficient judicial process.
The delegates explored the SC’s digital library, which offers an extensive range of legal resources and materials in digital format. The training program also covered the various court processes that have been improved through digital means.The Registrars demonstrated how the integration of technology in filing, listing, scrutiny, and scanning processes has streamlined these operations.
This initiative underscores the strong bilateral relationship between both countries and their mutual commitment to judicial excellence and technological innovation. Under the guidance of the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India, the Training Cell of the Supreme Court supported this initiative, facilitating a platform for knowledge sharing and fostering collaboration with international judicial entities.
The training program is a testament to the benefits of international cooperation in the judiciary. The successful completion of the training program by the Sri Lankan SC delegation at the SC of India marks a significant milestone in judicial cooperation between the both countries.
