Sri Lankan Consul General H. E. Valsan Vethody Concludes Tenure and Bids Farewell

His Excellency Dr. Valsan Vethody, the esteemed Consul General of Sri Lanka, has completed his tenure and returned to Sri Lanka. A prominent figure in Mumbai’s diplomatic community, Dr. Vethody played a pivotal role in fostering strong diplomatic relations between Mumbai, India, and various international diplomats.

Throughout his time in Mumbai, Dr. Vethody excelled in enhancing business and tourism ties for Sri Lanka. His distinguished career includes various notable positions such as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, Advisor to the Minister of Tourism and Leader of the Opposition, Deputy High Commissioner in Madras, and Ambassador in Abu Dhabi and Sweden. During his tenure in Sweden, he was also accredited to Norway, Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia.

Academically, Dr. Vethody holds a Doctorate in Human Resources Development, a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce. His educational journey began in a remote village in Kerala, India, where he gained deep knowledge of Hindu, Christian, and Buddhist religions, their scriptures, and philosophies. His expertise in development, infrastructure, and the economy was notable, and he and his gracious wife, Aneeta, were known for their generosity, support, and warm demeanor.

Dr. Vethody was a gracious host for numerous events at the Sri Lankan Consulate, including Diwali Laxmi Pooja, Pongal Festival, and Christmas celebrations. These occasions were marked by beautifully designed décor and exquisite Sri Lankan cuisine. His commitment to promoting Sri Lanka as a premier tourist destination was evident through initiatives like the Sri Lankan Food Festival at Mumbai’s Fairfield by Marriott Hotel, which garnered significant acclaim. The festival featured authentic Sri Lankan dishes prepared by top chefs. The festival was further elevated by a dynamic dance troupe, which contributed significantly to its grand success, with many diplomats from leading consulates in Mumbai in attendance.

Dr. Vethody’s tenure was characterized by his profound cultural insight and dedication to strengthening ties between Sri Lanka and the global community. His contributions will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of working with him.
