The High Commission of India in Colombo presented the 10th edition of its Mobile Buddhist Heritage Exhibition at Hendala Purana Raja Maha Viharaya in Hendala, Wattala, Gampaha, on the occasion of Ill Full Moon Poya Day on 15th November 2024.
This exhibition, showcasing India’s rich Buddhist heritage, features a captivating series of photographs illustrating key episodes from the life of Lord Buddha and highlighting some of India’s most revered Buddhist pilgrimage sites. The exhibition spans various states in India, including Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Ladakh, Andhra Pradesh, and Kashmir, offering visitors a glimpse into the deep cultural and spiritual legacy of Buddhism.
Part of a year-long initiative by the High Commission of India, this mobile exhibition has been hosted at prominent Buddhist temples across Sri Lanka on each Poya day. Beginning with its inaugural display at the Kalutara Bodhi on Navam Poya, the exhibition has since traveled to significant locations such as Sri Sambodhi Maha Vihara in Colombo, Parama Dhamma Chethiya Pirivena in Ratmalana, Dharmaraja Pirivena in Matale, and many others. With the 10th edition in Wattala, the exhibition continues its journey to foster stronger people-to-people ties between India and Sri Lanka.
Each edition has received enthusiastic support from devotees, who have expressed deep appreciation for the spiritual and cultural significance of the displays. This ongoing initiative emphasizes the shared cultural and historical bond between India and Sri Lanka, reinforcing the strong ties that unite both nations and furthering the commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
