The farmers presented a memorandum to the Governor highlighting their demand for land allotment in Haregaon, located in Shrirampur taluka. According to the delegation, the issue has been pending for an extended period, affecting the livelihoods of several families dependent on agricultural land for sustenance.
Minister Vikhe-Patil, who represents the Shrirampur region, emphasized the urgency of the matter, stating that resolving this issue is crucial for ensuring the socio-economic security of the affected farmers. “We have urged the Governor to take cognizance and ensure that the farmers receive justice at the earliest,” the minister is reported to have said during the meeting.
The memorandum submitted detailed the challenges faced by the farmers due to the delay, including lack of access to cultivable land and subsequent economic hardships. The delegation requested the Governor to expedite the process by directing concerned authorities to take immediate and necessary action.
Governor Radhakrishnan assured the delegation that the matter would be examined in detail and promised to discuss it with the appropriate state authorities for a timely resolution.
The meeting underscores growing concerns among farmer groups in Maharashtra over land rights and allocation, an issue that has seen repeated protests and representations in recent months. The Shrirampur farmers hope that this intervention at the highest level will finally break the deadlock and provide them with the much-needed land for cultivation.
