The Government of Ras Al Khaimah has appointed Phillipa Harrison, former managing director of Tourism Australia, as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA).

Harrison takes on the role with a mandate to advance the Emirate’s vision of becoming the “Destination of the Future.” With decades of experience in international tourism across Australia and other global markets, her appointment is viewed as a strategic step in strengthening Ras Al Khaimah’s global positioning.

“She brings with her a depth of knowledge and leadership experience, most recently with Tourism Australia, that gives us confidence in her ability to align with Ras Al Khaimah’s ambitious goals,” said Sheikh Ahmed bin Saud Al Qasimi, Chairman of RAKTDA’s Executive Committee. He noted that tourism remains the Emirate’s fastest-growing sector, with significant milestones already achieved.

Expressing her enthusiasm, Harrison said, “I’m honoured to join at such an exciting time. Ras Al Khaimah has already established itself as an international success story, and I look forward to unlocking even more growth in the years ahead.”

Her appointment is expected to accelerate the government’s long-term tourism strategy, particularly in the area of sustainability. The Emirate welcomed a record 650,000 visitors in the first half of 2025 and is targeting over 3.5 million annual visitors by 2030.

In her career, Harrison has served as managing director of Tourism Australia and earlier as executive general manager, international, overseeing operations across major global markets and partnerships. She has also held leadership roles with Hamilton Island Enterprises and senior positions in tourism, retail, and e-commerce in London and Sydney.

Harrisonholds a bachelor’s degree in mass communication and psychology from Macquarie University and an MBA from the University of New South Wales.
