The Consulate General of Vietnam in Mumbai hosted a grand reception at the Trident Hotel, Nariman Point, to celebrate the 80th National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. The evening brought together diplomats, senior government officials, business leaders, and media representatives in a vibrant display of friendship and cultural exchange.
The celebration was graced by His Excellency Le Quang Bien, Consul General of Vietnam in Mumbai, along with his wife Ma Bich Lien. Ashish Shelar, Cabinet Minister, Government of Maharashtra, attended as the chief guest. Veteran journalist and columnist Vinod Advani compered the evening, ensuring the proceedings were engaging and well-paced. The program opened with the national anthems of India and Vietnam, followed by the inaugural address of the Consul General.
H.E. Le Quang Bien reflected on Vietnam’s journey, its challenges, and its achievements, while emphasizing the growing partnership between Vietnam and India in trade, tourism, and cultural ties. He also underlined Vietnam’s rapid economic growth and vision for South Asia. Speaking on the occasion, he said, “Vietnam and India share not just a diplomatic relationship but a bond of friendship that has stood the test of time. Our countries are partners in progress, and together we can create new opportunities in trade, culture, and innovation.”

Chief guest Ashish Shelar praised the enduring ties between Vietnam, India, and Maharashtra. “The ties between Maharashtra, India, and Vietnam reflect our shared values and aspirations. We look forward to building even stronger bridges of cooperation in the years to come,” he remarked.
The celebration also highlighted the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership signed in 2016, which has strengthened bilateral trade, cultural exchanges, and tourism. With rising Indian tourist interest in Vietnam and growing opportunities for Vietnamese students in India, both nations are exploring deeper collaboration.
Guests were treated to authentic Vietnamese cuisine that received an enthusiastic response, with many lining up to sample traditional delicacies. Exciting prizes, including complimentary trips to Vietnam and luxury stays, added to the evening’s charm. The event concluded with a gala dinner and goody bags for attendees, leaving guests with lasting memories of Vietnam’s rich heritage and its enduring friendship with India.
