India and Brazil Explore New Opportunities in Trade and Technology

India and Brazil are looking to deepen their economic partnership by expanding cooperation in trade, technology, agribusiness and critical minerals, according to discussions held during an interactive meeting between the World Trade Center Mumbai and H.E. Mr. José Mauro da Fonseca Costa Couto, Consul General of Brazil in Mumbai.

The meeting focused on identifying new avenues of collaboration and strengthening institutional linkages to support business engagement between the two countries.

His Excellency José Mauro da Fonseca Costa Couto, Consul General of Brazil in Mumbai, said, “India and Brazil possess immense potential to deepen cooperation in trade, investment and sectoral development. Brazil’s expertise in agribusiness, technology and critical minerals offers substantial opportunities for Indian enterprises. At the same time, both countries can broaden engagement beyond traditional sectors and foster stronger government-to-business partnerships to drive sustainable economic growth.”

The Consul General expressed interest in expanding trade engagement with World Trade Center Mumbai and highlighted the role of institutional partnerships in connecting businesses and facilitating practical cooperation.

Dr. Vijay Kalantri, Chairman of World Trade Center Mumbai and President of the All India Association of Industries, said Brazil remains India’s largest trading partner in the Latin American and Caribbean region. He noted that bilateral merchandise trade reached USD 12.19 billion in FY 2024-25 and that both countries are working towards increasing trade to USD 20 billion by 2030.

Dr. Kalantri added that Brazil’s strengths complement India’s capabilities in manufacturing, services, technology and entrepreneurship. He stressed that focused business exchanges, joint ventures and market-access partnerships can further strengthen economic ties.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to promote industry interaction, technology exchange and investment opportunities, reinforcing the growing strategic partnership between India and Brazil.
