The Tricolour took centre stage at Mumbai’s Lok Bhavan on Sunday as Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Verma joined officers, staff and police personnel in marking the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign with patriotic songs and the National Flag.
Holding the Tricolour, Governor Verma participated in the singing of the National Song, National Anthem and Maharashtra’s State Song at the Lok Bhavan complex. The programme brought together officials and police personnel in an expression of national pride and respect for the country’s symbols.
The celebrations coincided with the commencement of this year’s ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, which is being observed from August 9 to 17. The campaign has added significance in 2026 as the country marks 150 years of ‘Vande Mataram’.
The National Flag was also hoisted at several important heritage buildings within the Lok Bhavan premises, including the Darbar Hall and Jal Vihar. The display of the Tricolour at these historic structures formed part of the celebrations at the Governor’s official residence.
Secretary to the Governor Dr Prashant Narnaware and other senior officers were present during the programme.
The ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ initiative seeks to encourage citizens to display the National Flag at their homes and participate in activities celebrating the Tricolour. Over the years, the campaign has become an avenue for public participation in national celebrations and for reinforcing the spirit of unity and patriotism.
This year’s observance also recalls the historic journey of ‘Vande Mataram’, which completes 150 years in 2026. The song has played a significant role in India’s national movement and continues to hold a special place in the country’s patriotic tradition.
The programme at Lok Bhavan combined the campaign’s call for wider participation with a tribute to the National Flag and the enduring legacy of ‘Vande Mataram’.
