China is fully confident and capable of defeating the epidemic

China is making solid progress in the fight against outbreak of the novel
coronavirus, said His Excellency Tang Guocai, Consul General of China in
Mumbai. The case fatality rate is kept under 2.1 percent, far lower than that of
other epidemics hitting the world; cured cases have exceeded fatal ones by a
significant margin; and the increase of suspected cases has slowed down. China
is setting new standard for outbreak response.

As Chinese President Xi Jinping told US President Donald Trump over the
telephone on February 7, “In its battle against the coronavirus, China is
gradually achieving results. The Chinese government has spared no effort in its
fight to contain the coronavirus outbreak, having taken the most comprehensive
and stringent prevention and containment measures. China is fully confident and
capable of defeating the epidemic, and the long-term trend of the country's
economic development will not change”.

On 31 January, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a phone call
with Indian Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. Both sides
agreed to stay objective and rational, step up communication and coordination,
and make joint efforts to fight against the epidemic.

H.E. Tang added coronavirus is common enemy of the international community.
Since the onset of the outbreak, many Indian friends from political, business,
cultural circles and friendly organizations have expressed their solidarity and
support. WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros reiterates that there is no ground for
unnecessary travel and trade restrictions. H.E. António Guterres, Secretary-
General of the United Nations, appeals no discrimination towards Chinese
citizens should be a must. There is no need to panic or overreact.

A senior official from Health Ministry in Government of India, speaking to
Mumbai Messenger on the condition of anonymity said “The Chinese
government is competent to tackle this situation in a better way. There scientists
are working on war footing level to find solution, and they would surely come out
with immediate remedies. Soon, coronavirus epidemic would be a thing of the
past.

He further added “In India too, all leading scientists and medical fraternities are
optimizing all efforts to find out reason and develop a treatment for disease. The
epidemic is taking toll on human lives which is really a cause of concern,
whether he is from China or any other countries. Not only India but other
leading nations have begun with research and development to overcome this
situation. Soon, remedy will be in the place in China and almost in all the
countries and life will come on normal track.”

It may be noted that Government of India’s medical health department has
working round the clock to find out the reason of coronavirus outbreak and has

begun with starting isolated wards for treatment of affected people who have
come from affected areas of epidemic. With special and speedy support of the
Chinese side, the government of India sent two planes to evacuate Indian citizen
from Wuhan, where this epidemic has erupted. The Indian government
machinery is on high alert and there is no reason to be panicked.
