Additional Municipal Commissioner Suresh Kakani said that the final decision on the timing of local trains in Mumbai will be taken after February 20.
This comes after Mumbai recorded a spike in COVID-19 cases. Meanwhile, the decision was taken in the weekly meeting which was attended by representatives of the state government and health officials.
“Currently we cannot say that cases have increased due to the resumption of local trains. But we have decided to review it again after February 20 and the final decision will be taken at that time,” Kakani said on Wednesday.
After a gap of nearly 10 months, the general public was allowed to travel in the suburban railway system. However, the trains currently are permitted to ferry the general public in three-time slots: from the time of the start of the services till 7 am, from 12 noon to 4 pm, and from 9 pm till the time of the closure of services for the day.
On the other hand, according to the data shared by Western and Central Railways, 4,618 commuters have been booked for travelling without face masks on Central (CR) and Western Railway (WR) between February 1 and February 14. This includes 2,558 passengers on the Western Railway and 2,060 passengers on the Central Railway.
