Mumbai witnesses more than 1600 new COVID-19 cases

Mumbai continued to witness a spike in new coronavirus cases with the city recording over 1,600 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours.

The city reported four deaths and 1,646 new COVID-19 cases today.

The total number of positive cases in Mumbai now stands at 3,40,277, according to information received by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

At least 11,519 people have succumbed to the virus in Mumbai so far.

The total number of recoveries surged to 3,15,379 with 1,122 new discharges on Friday. The recovery rate of the Mumbai district is 93 per cent.

The overall growth rate of COVID-19 cases in Mumbai from March 5 to March 11 is 0.35 per cent. The doubling rate in Mumbai was 196 days as of March 12, 2021.

The number of active containment zones (slums and chawls) remains below 40 at 30.

Since the beginning of this week, the metropolitan had reported more than 1000 daily coronavirus cases. On Monday, 1,008 new cases were reported and 1,012 fresh cases were reported on Tuesday, while 1,539 on Wednesday 1508 on Thursday.
