BEST bus catches fire in Bhandup

A bus belonging to the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) fleet caught fire in the suburban Bhandup area on Friday evening.

The incident took place in Gadhav Naka locality of Bhandup West around 6 pm when the CNG-run bus on route 606 was ferrying passengers.

All the passengers were safely evacuated from the vehicle.

“Nobody was injured as the driver immediately stopped the bus after noticing flames in the cabin near the radiator and asked passengers to get down,” a BEST spokesperson said.

Locals tried to douse the fire by pouring buckets of water on the burning vehicle but eventually, the fire brigade was informed and officials arrived to bring the fire under control.

The bus was later towed away to the Vikhroli depot.

The civic-run BEST provides bus services to Mumbai and neighbouring cities on a daily basis.
