Good News: New online visa system introduced by Sri Lankan Government

Those who wish to travel to Sri Lanka has a reason to cheer. The Sri Lankan Department of Immigration and Emigration has introduced its new visa process and online application portal. This move by the Sri Lankan government is marking a significant advancement in visa services.

The new visa system has come into force from today, i.e. 17th April, 2023, as per a press release. As per a press release, this initiative, outlined in the Extraordinary Gazette No. 2360/24 dated November 27, 2023, introduces a streamlined approach with updated requirements, fees, and validity periods for visas in Sri Lanka.

Partnering with IVS Global Institute and GBS Technology Service, the department is launching the e-visa system, replacing the current ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) method. This transition aims to enhance efficiency and convenience for travellers.

Through this platform, the department is committed to delivering a swift and effective visa application process, catering to the needs of both tourists and investors, which will contribute to the economic development of Sri Lanka by enhancing foreign exchange revenue and investment.
