Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan lighted a lamp as a tribute to the members of the Jewish community who were massacred in the second world war at a Commemoration meeting held at the Keneseth Eliyahoo Synagogue at Kala Ghoda in Mumbai on January, 27, 2025.
The commemoration meeting was organized by the Jacob Sassoon Trust in observance of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, held on January 27 each year. This significant day honors the memory of the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust, as well as the millions of others who suffered under Nazi persecution. The event aimed to ensure that the horrors of the Holocaust are never forgotten and to emphasize the importance of combating hatred and intolerance.
The commemoration meeting was an important global event observed by people worldwide to remember the atrocities of the Holocaust and honour its victims. This day serves as a solemn reminder of the horrors faced by millions during World War II, underscoring the need for unity against hatred and discrimination.
The event in Mumbai was attended by several prominent dignitaries, including Kobbi Shoshani, Consul General of Israel, and Achim Fabig, Consul General of Germany. Michael Schreuder, a senior officer from the US Consulate, along with consuls from other countries, also participated in the gathering. The occasion was further graced by Solomon Sopher, Chairman of the Jacob Sassoon Trust, and members of the Jewish community, who came together to honour the memory of those lost in the Holocaust and reflect on the importance of promoting tolerance and peace.
