Mumbai police discontinues emergency stickers

The Mumbai Police on Saturday said that emergency stickers categorisation will be discontinued but thorough checks on the road will continue. This comes almost a week after its implementation came into effect.

In a tweet, Mumbai Police said, “Dear Mumbaikars, the red, yellow, green emergency stickers categorisation is being discontinued. However, thorough checks shall continue and we hope you will stand by us in taking on corona and avoid all non-essential /non-emergency movement outside home.”

Mumbai Police had earlier introduced colour-coded stickers in order to allow smoother movement of essential vehicles during the curfew.

Vehicles belonging to doctors, medical staff, ambulances and those engaged in supplying medical equipment and testing kits had to sport red stickers, while those transporting food, vegetables, fruits, groceries and dairy products needed to paste green stickers. Mumbai police had also created a “green corridor” for vehicles with red stickers.

However, the order has now been discontinued with the police urging citizens to help them in taking on the virus and avoid any non-essential movement outside homes. Maharashtra has also reintroduced the system of e-passes and only those with emergencies will be allowed to travel after getting an e-pass.
