Guinness World Record holder Padmashri Chef Sanjeev Kapoor felicitated by Maharashtra Governor

Guinness World Record holder Chef Sanjeev Kapoor received the prestigious Padma Shri Award by the President of India Pranab Mukherjee

 The Governor of Maharashtra, Bhagat Singh Koshyari acknowledging the contribution of ‘Corona Warriors’ during the pandemic has felicitated Padmashri Awardee, Chef extraordinaire and celebrated entrepreneur Sanjeev Kapoor for his significant contribution to society. The felicitation ceremony was organized by the senior IPS officer Qaiser Khalid at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai recently.

Padmashri Chef Sanjeev Kapoor collaborated with India’s leading homegrown hospitality brand, Indian Hotel Company Limited (IHCL), The Taj group arranged meals for doctors and medical care providers. In this joint initiative, they provided meals to Mumbai’s hospitals that included Kasturba, KEM and Sion Hospital. In addition, Sanjeev Kapoor also collaborated with various caterers and restaurant owners for their help to cook and feed those in the need during these pressing times.

It maybe noted that when the COVID-19 lockdown was imposed, the quintessential and cherished face of Indian culinary adventure, Masterchef Sanjeev Kapoor promptly took over to serve the Indian community. He did remarkably humanitarian work by arranging, stocking, distributing, and mobilizing food and other essential commodities throughout the period.

Along with Chef Sanjeev Kapoor fifty Corona warriors from various fields were also felicitated which included Chairman and Heads of various public sector undertakings, banks, corporates, NGOs as well as individual personalities for their institutional work during COVID-19 pandemic. Besides Sanjeev Kapoor, CMD of Alkem Group BN Singh, actress Perizad Zorabian, Chairman of UTI Imtaiyazur Rahman, CMD of New India Assurance Atul Sahai, Managing Director of LIC Vipin Anand, Chairman of Central Bank of India Pallav Mohapatra, and IDBI Director Suresh Khatanhar were among the Corona Warriors felicitated on the occasion.

 Padma Shri Awardee Chef Sanjeev Kapoor speaking to Mumbai Messenger Newspaper said, “The COVID-19 pandemic has hit the world in a way that none of us could have foreseen. Amidst such an unprecedented crisis, some people were also deprived of the one of most basic necessities in life that is food.  It was time to come together and help the most vulnerable, the unprivileged so that they can feed themselves and be healthy and safe. I am humbled to have been recognized by the Governor of Maharashtra for my contributions during the lockdown. I believe it was my responsibility and will continue to work relentlessly for the community.”

About Chef Sanjeev Kapoor: Guinness World Record holder, famous Banker’s son Chef Sanjeev Kapoor was born in April 1964 at Ambala, Punjab. He completed his Diploma in Hotel Management from the prestigious IHM Pusa, New Delhi.  He began his career in the hospitality industry in 1984 at ITDC’s The Ashok Hotel New Delhi. He also served as official Chef to Late Rajiv Gandhi, former Prime Minister of India at his official residence in New Delhi. Chef Extraordinaire and Celebrated Entrepreneur Sanjeev Kapoor is one of the foremost and trusted faces on TV. He featured in Reader’s Digest list of 100 of India’s Most Trusted people.

After working in many hotels at different places like The Ashok New Delhi, The Ashok Varanasi, New Zealand, etc. he became the youngest Executive Chef of Centaur Hotel in Mumbai in the year 1992. He is also the recipient of the Best Executive Chef of India Award by H & FS and the Mercury Gold Award at Geneva, Switzerland by Indian Federation of Culinary Associations. He is on board as one of the key members of the International Culinary Panel of Singapore Airlines.

Sanjeev Kapoor received the prestigious Padma Shri Award in 2017 by the President of India. His popularity and contribution to Indian cuisine has been recognized by the Government of India too, who conferred on him the National award of “Best Chef of India.” He is also on the panel of the Ministry of Tourism and on the board of Singapore Airlines International Culinary Panel along with the brightest names from the culinary world across the global culinary capitals.

Chef Sanjeev is the first and the only chef in the country to own a 24X7 Food & Lifestyle channel – FoodFood. He also owns Wonderchef, India’s premier company in cookware and kitchen appliances. His initiative, Sanjeev Kapoor’s Khana Khazana Productions Pvt Ltd has lent its expertise in successfully creating many cookery shows. Recently he launched  Sanjeevkapooracademy.com – an online academy specifically created to enable people to take inspiration from the Master Chef and start their food businesses from home.
