It was to Create Awareness of Heart Care and Heart-Healthy Lifestyle

In a bid to create awareness and promote a healthy heart among the masses and to educate the common man to fight against cardiovascular disease (CVD), Medicover Hospitals of Navi Mumbai held a mini walkathon from the service road to three monkey points and took a pledge on Thursday, 29th September, on the occasion of World Heart Day.

The walkathon was flagged off by releasing the heart-shaped balloons. Along with the hospital staff, doctors participated in the walkathon, each carrying messages on how to prevent heart disease and take care of the heart.

It may be noted that Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD) is a catastrophic event and it is contributed to 10.3% of overall mortality. The majority of SCD cases will occur in the general population who are not known to have heart disease. With aiming to make awareness about cardiovascular disease and early identification of cardiac disease.

The Hospital staff and doctors also took a pledge for heart care and a heart-healthy lifestyle. The hospital organised free cardiac screening camps in collaboration with nursing homes, clinics, societies, diagnostics, and corporates across Navi Mumbai. During these camps, the hospital provided free screening including ECG, RBS, and doctor consultation for heart care.

Hospital has organised community health talks to raise awareness about cardiac disease. The webinars were held by hospitals to generate awareness among younger people about cardiac health.

Dr. Brajesh Kunwar, Head of Cardiology Department, Medicover Hospitals, Navi Mumbai said “Though peak prevalence of SCD is in a geriatric group, the age trend is now changing in the last few years.  It is rising in prevalence from 30 years and peaking at 50 to 70 years. The existence of a large substrate of undiagnosed coronary artery disease in a younger population contributing to SCD is a major health issue in India that merits focused designing of effective preventive strategies. Therefore, we are focusing on the early diagnosis of cardiac disease and on-time treatment”,

Dr. Anup Mahajani, Consultant Interventional Cardiologist, Medicover Hospitals, Navi Mumbai highlighted on the subject by saying “People are following unhealthy lifestyles these days due to which SCD occurs. We organized a 20 minute walkathon which highlighted the importance of a brisk 20-minute walk each day that could reduce the risk of heart disease.”

Dr. Sachin Gadkari, Centre Head, Medicover Hospitals, Navi Mumbai said “This program definitely will help to identify patients in the early stages of cardiovascular disease (CAD) so they can get the proper preventative treatment, and avoid CAD-related death. We are proud that we are doing these activities which may save many lives”.
