- Cooperation with India in the areas of environment and digitalization will be enhanced
The newly appointed Ambassador of Sweden to India His Excellency Jan Thesleff met the governor of Maharashtra, Bhagat Singh Koshyari on 23rd November, 2022. The meeting was held at the Governor’s official residence, Raj Bhavan in Mumbai at Malabar Hill. It was a courtesy call. The Swedish Ambassador was accompanied by Consul of Sweden in Mumbai Erik Malmberg.
During his meeting with the governor, the Ambassador emphasised that Sweden is working closely with India on various issues to strengthen ties among both the countries. The issues include Environment, Sustainability and Digitalization to name a few. He apprised that the Trade Minister of Sweden will be visiting India later this year. He expressed the hope that the cooperation between the two countries will further grow in the coming years.
The ambassador H.E. Jan Thesleff conveyed to the Governor that Sweden is launching the India – Sweden Green Transition Partnership later during the day. He said through the partnership Swedish companies will work with Indian corporates and companies across cement, iron and steel sectors and contribute to their green journeys.
Indo-Swedish relation: India–Sweden relations are the bilateral ties between India and Sweden. Sweden recognised India’s independence from the United Kingdom in 1947; both nations established formal diplomatic relations in 1949. India has an embassy in Stockholm, while Sweden has an embassy in New Delhi and consulates in Chennai, Kolkata and Mumbai. About 10,000 Indian citizens reside and work in Sweden, along with a further 9,000 persons of Indian origin; both groups are mainly employed in business or professional fields.
About The Ambassador Jan Thesleff: The Ambassador of Sweden to India, H.E. Jan Thesleff has extensive experience in diplomatic relations. Prior to becoming The Ambassador of Sweden to India, he served as Commissioner General Swedish Committee for Participation at Expo 2020. In his long journey in the diplomatic field, he has served many countries that includes Egypt, Riyadh, Abu Dhabi -UAE to name a few. He has studied in University of Lund (Sweden), University of Montpellier (France) and University of Tunis (Tunisia). He is well versed in French and Arabic languages.
