The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) recently organized a familiarization (FAM) trip for 17 travel agents from the Madhya Pradesh Chapter of the Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI), held from April 28 to May 3, 2025.
The FAM trip was curated to highlight the Ramayana Trail—an increasingly popular spiritual and cultural tourism circuit for Indian travellers. The itinerary featured key sites linked to the ancient epic, including Sigiriya, believed to be associated with Ravana’s kingdom; Ramboda and Nuwara Eliya, home to Ashok Vatika; and the Seetha Amman Temple, a major pilgrimage site for devotees.
Beyond spiritual tourism, the trip also showcased Sri Lanka’s leisure side, with visits to the golden beaches of Bentota and the urban vibrancy of Colombo.
On the final day, SLTPB hosted a B2B networking session where over 50 local stakeholders—including DMCs, hotels, and tour operators—interacted with the Indian agents, fostering opportunities for future collaboration.
“This FAM trip was meticulously planned to highlight the Ramayana Trail’s appeal. The cultural depth and diverse experiences impressed all participants,” said Amol Kataria, Secretary, TAFI MP Chapter.
With its close cultural ties and growing appeal among Indian travellers, Sri Lanka continues to strengthen trade ties through initiatives like these. SLTPB plans to conduct more such targeted engagements to boost tourism from regional Indian markets like Madhya Pradesh.
