Former Indian pacer Karsan Ghavri, known for his sharp cricketing instincts, has lavished praise on young batting sensation Shubman Gill, describing him as “the next superstar of world cricket.” Ghavri, who first spotted Gill’s raw talent when he was just 12 years old, continues to express confidence in the India and Gujarat Titans captain’s promising future.

Recalling his first encounter with Gill, Ghavri said, “Even as a young boy, Shubman had a lot of fire, a lot of spark.” Ghavri was conducting a fast-bowling camp in Mohali when, during a casual walk, he noticed a schoolboy batting in an adjoining ground — despite a light drizzle — confidently taking on bowlers much older than him.

Impressed by the youngster’s technique and composure, Ghavri approached Gill’s father and requested that Shubman join his camp for formal training from the following day. “He had an excellent temperament and clean stroke play. I knew then that he was special,” Ghavri recalled.

Over the years, as Gill rose through the ranks from domestic cricket to the Indian  national team, Ghavri has remained one of his staunchest supporters. “He is temperamentally very sound. Even when he doesn’t get runs in a couple of games, he bounces back with maturity,” he said.

In a recent interaction, Ghavri also compared Gill’s discipline with other youngsters of his generation. “He worked tirelessly on his game. You can see the difference in his focus, technique, and hunger to succeed.” The interaction was arranged by Krishna Hegde, former MLA and Shiv Sena leader, columnist, and political spokesperson.

Now leading Team India across formats, Gill is expected to play a key role in shaping the future of Indian cricket. Ghavri is confident the best is yet to come. “He has all the qualities of a great player — temperament, talent, and the will to fight. If he continues with the same mindset, he can dominate world cricket for years to come.”

Even as Gill navigates the challenges of international cricket, including demanding overseas tours, Ghavri’s advice remains clear and impactful: “Spend time at the crease, build strong partnerships, and as captain, adapt your strategies to suit the conditions. The results will follow.”

With strong backing from a seasoned voice like Ghavri, all eyes will be on Shubman Gill as he prepares for the upcoming international season — with high hopes and soaring expectations.

Ghavri also lauded Team India’s performance in the recently concluded England tour, calling the drawn series “more than just a win.” “This is a young team, and what they achieved on English soil speaks volumes,” he added.
