Ethiopian Airlines began its Indian operation in 1966 from New Delhi.
Ethiopian Airline hosted an awards night to recognize their top performing passengers and cargo agents in India for their excellent service and their continuous support that ensured the success of Airline. Regional Director India Subcontinent and Consul General of Ethiopia presented the awards to top performing passenger and Cargo Agents. The award ceremony was held at Mumbai’s Renaissance hotel. His Excellency Demeke Atnafu Ambulo, Consul General of Ethiopa in Mumbai was chief guest for the event.
Ethiopian Airlines Awards are intended to reward Top Passenger and Cargo agents and tour operators that are not only successful but have also taken airline to an industry leadership and new high in this competitive world. The highlight of the event was to celebrating the long standing partnership with top agents from passenger and cargo sector. Over150 tour operators, travel agents and cargo agents attended glittering ceremony.
The event was a dual function, it also seen farewell of outgoing Regional Director, Indian Subcontinent, Tadesse Tilahun and welcoming new incumbent Mrs. Tigist Eshetu. All presents welcomed new incumbent with round of applause and bid farewell to Tadesse.
India’s leading nine Passenger Agents who received Award includes Akbar Travels of India, Riya Travel & Tours, TC Tours, STC Tours, SOTC Travel, Travel Boutique Online, ATPI India, Trust Travel & Tours, BCD Travel India and Eurasia Travel Services.
Leading 12 Cargo Agents who received Awards includes Galaxy Freight, Magnum Cargo, Alif Air Freight Services, East West Freight Carriers Ltd, Skylink Freight Forwarders, Cargo Partner Logistics India, Leaap International, Hermes Travels & Cargo, Daga Connect, Modern Cargo Services, Fast Forward Logistics India and Ryal Logistics.

Consul General, Demeke Atnafu Ambulo, on his opening remark while highlighting the India-Ethiopia partnership in trade, investment as well as tourism sector. He explained reasons as to why to travel to Ethiopia, with focus on being branded as the “Land of Origins”.
CG invited tour operators and travel agents to promote further the enchanting and diverse tourism the country offers. There are so many tourists places of interest that can attract tourists from India include historical, archaeological and heritage tourism, cultural, environmental and eco-tourism, adventure, recreational and sport tourism among many others.
Speaking exclusively to Mumbai Messenger, CG Demeke Atnafu Ambulo said “Ethiopian Airline is one of the favorite airlines operating from many destinations in India. Currently Ethiopian is flying out of three stations in India namely Mumbai, New Delhi and Banglore. It is further expanding its base and adding one more station Chennai in South India. The new flight from Chennai would take its maiden flight on April 3rd, 2020. The airline is significantly impacting the trade, investment and tourism connectivity and ties between India and Ethiopia and also that of Africa.
CG further added “In last couple of year’s number of Indian tourists has increased manifold which is a good sign. India and Ethiopia have an old history of overall strong relations. However, in recent years, the economic dimension has become its most important, particularly in areas of investment, agriculture, trade, and infrastructure. We are happy that more and more people are attracted to visit Ethiopia”.
