Bouncing back from Covid19 Pandemic and beginning a new inning, the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in Mumbai hosted a reception to celebrate the 73rd anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Several prominent people from political parties, business communities, several diplomats and government officials and leading media professionals attended the prestigious event.
In his keynote address, the Chinese Consul General His Excellency, Kong Xianhua highlighted the tremendous jump in Chinese per capita GDP to 10 thousand USD resulting in 100 million people getting lifted out of poverty during the past decade itself. As a result, the goal of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda has been achieved 10 years ahead of schedule in China. He pointed out that China’s innovation index jumped from 35th to 12th in the world in a decade and the proportion of high-tech manufacturing increased from 9.4% to 15.1%.
He said, “Next month, the Communist Party of China will convene the 20th National Congress. It will be an important meeting to be held at a critical time as China embarks on a new journey toward the second centenary goal of building a modern socialist country in all respects.” At this national congress, the CPC reviews the major achievements made and valuable experience gained in China’s reform and development endeavors. It formulates programs of action and overarching policies to meet China’s new development goals on the journey ahead in the new era and the new expectations of the people.
He added, “We will continue to follow the Chinese path to modernization to achieve the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, and we will continue to promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind. By doing so, we will create new opportunities for the world with new advances in China’s development and contribute our vision and strength to world peace and development and human progress.”

He sounded optimistic on India-China relations and commented, “Today the world is witnessing the great evolution that has never been seen in the last century. Global economy is facing many uncertainties while difficulties do exist in China-India relations. Let’s seek hope in the difficulties with warm hearts and solid efforts.”
The Consul General was deeply moved by the hospitality of Indian people and remarkable performance of Indian development. He was of the view that his consular district is at the forefront of Indian development and opening-up as it enjoys a dynamic economy, promising development prospect, rapid technological progress and shining culture. I’m confident that it will continue to take the lead in cooperation with China. He said, “The consular district is an important destination for Chinese investment. Many Chinese companies are running business in financial, manufacturing, infrastructure, medicine and many other industries. On the one hand, the companies pursue their own growth. On the other hand, they have made huge contributions to the consular district. They not only bring high-quality Chinese products to Indian consumers, but also focus on R&D, technology transfer, talent training and social responsibility. They are playing an important role in the strategy of Make in India and the pursuit of an One-Trillion-Dollar economy by Maharashtra.”
He was inspired by Prime Minister Modi’s vision of building India into a developed country by 2047. He told the gathering that the Chinese companies are pursuing joint development with Maharashtra and India because China needs a thriving India and likewise, India also needs a prosperous China. He added the quote of Chinese State Councilor Wang Yi during his visit to India, “If China and India speak with one voice, the whole world will listen. If the two countries join hands, the whole world will pay attention”.
He emphasized the need to enhance mutual understanding, promote practical cooperation and work for the benefits of our people as this year marks the 30th anniversary of the reopening of the Chinese Consulate General in Mumbai.

It may be noted that Chinese National Day is celebrated throughout mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau. The government hosts a variety of festivities, including grand fireworks and cultural events, and public spaces are decorated with lamps and flowers. China’s National Day is celebrated over a one-week period, beginning from October 1 and running until October 7, every year.
National Day is a public holiday in China celebrated annually on October 1, commemorating the formal proclamation of the establishment of the People’s Republic of China on 1 October 1949. The Chinese Communist Party victory in the Chinese Civil War resulted in the Kuomintang retreat to Taiwan and the Chinese Communist Revolution whereby the People’s Republic of China replaced the Republic of China.
