Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan unfurled the National Tricolour at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Park on Thursday to mark the 66th Maharashtra State Foundation Day. The official state function, held on May 1, witnessed a grand ceremonial parade and the presence of key dignitaries, government officials, and citizens.
Following the flag hoisting, the Governor inspected the ceremonial parade and accepted the salute from the marching contingents. The event featured an impressive display by various units, including the State Reserve Police Force, Greater Mumbai Armed Police, Women Police Force, Railway Police, Mumbai Fire Brigade, and multiple brass and pipe bands. Colour parties proudly carried the flags of Maharashtra Police, Fire Services, and other state forces.
Legislative Council Chairman Prof. Ram Shinde, Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar, and Minister of Medical Education Hasan Mushrif. Also present were Maharashtra State Women’s Commission Chairperson Rupali Chakankar, Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik, Director General of Police Rashmi Shukla, Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti, and several foreign consuls based in Mumbai.
The Governor’s address, delivered in Marathi, was read out by Additional Chief Secretary (Protocol) Manisha Mhaiskar. The message reflected on the legacy of Maharashtra’s formation, the state’s progress, and the role of citizens in upholding democratic values and unity.
