In a significant first, the High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, H.E. Santosh Jha, met and interacted with 35 Hindi teachers selected for the upcoming Hindi Teachers’ Training Programme to be held at Kendriya Hindi Sansthan (KHS), Agra. This marks the first-ever training initiative in India for Hindi teachers from government schools across Sri Lanka. The programme is being organised by the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC), the cultural arm of the High Commission of India in Colombo, in collaboration with KHS, Agra.

A total of 88 government schools across Sri Lanka currently offer Hindi as a subject. The Ministry of Education, Government of Sri Lanka, has selected teachers from these institutions to take part in this prestigious programme. The training is aimed at enhancing Hindi language teaching methods and fostering deeper cultural understanding.

During the interactive session, the High Commissioner extended his best wishes to the teachers, expressing confidence in their dedication and in the crucial role they play in strengthening Hindi education in Sri Lanka. He also underlined the broader significance of the initiative in furthering educational and cultural collaboration between the two countries.

The participating teachers will undergo intensive training at KHS, Agra, a premier institute under India’s Ministry of Education, known for its contributions to global Hindi promotion. Alongside academic sessions, the programme will include visits to culturally and historically significant cities in India, offering the teachers a deeper insight into Indian heritage.

This unique engagement reaffirms the shared commitment of India and Sri Lanka to educational development and highlights the increasing interest in Hindi as a language of learning and cultural exchange.
