The grandeur of Mumbai’s most iconic Ganesh mandal, Lalbaugcha Raja, witnessed a unique cultural addition this year as the Maharashtra Postal Circle unveiled a set of picture postcards and a special cancellation dedicated to Ganesh Utsav. The release took place on Sunday evening, coinciding with the Pratham Darshan (first glimpse) of the idol for the media.
Chief Postmaster General of Maharashtra Postal Circle, Shri Amitabh Singh, launched the collection comprising four specially designed postcards under the theme “Ganesh Utsav: Cultural Heritage of Maharashtra.” The artistic designs were created by renowned calligrapher and Padma Shri awardee Achyut Palav, who was present at the event.
The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries including Shri Babasaheb Sudam Kambale, Chairman of Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal, Secretary Sudhir Sitaram Salavi, Dr. Sudhir Jakhere (APMG BD, Maharashtra Circle), Yadagiri Nyalapelli (Asst. Director, PSR, Maharashtra Circle) and noted philatelist Ashwini Manjure.
Speaking on the occasion, Amitabh Singh conveyed festive greetings to devotees and underlined the significance of integrating cultural traditions with philately. “Ganesh Utsav is not just a festival but a heritage that binds communities. Through these postcards and special cancellation, we aim to preserve and celebrate this legacy for philatelists and future generations,” he said.
The postcards, which blend art and devotion, are expected to become collectors’ items for both devotees of Lord Ganesha and stamp enthusiasts. With intricate calligraphic elements and motifs depicting the essence of the festival, the designs highlight the evolving role of India Post in promoting cultural heritage through philately.
The Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal, which draws millions of devotees every year, welcomed the initiative as a meaningful tribute to the festival’s enduring legacy. The unveiling also reinforced the Postal Department’s ongoing efforts to commemorate traditions and festivals that resonate deeply with people across Maharashtra.
