Sri Lanka has reaffirmed that its tourism sector is fully operational and ready to welcome international travellers, including a strong focus on visitors from India, following recent adverse weather conditions and a cyclone that affected parts of the island.
In a statement issued after restoration efforts, Hon. Prof. Ruwan Ranasinghe, Deputy Minister of Tourism of Sri Lanka, said the country has worked tirelessly to rebuild and restore all affected areas. He confirmed that key tourism destinations are now safe, accessible and functioning smoothly, with road connectivity and essential infrastructure fully restored to ensure hassle-free travel for visitors.
Highlighting Sri Lanka’s long-standing reputation as a warm and hospitable destination, Prof. Ranasinghe said the island nation is once again ready to extend a heartfelt welcome to travellers from across the globe. He paid special tribute to India, describing it as Sri Lanka’s closest neighbour and a trusted friend, bound by deep cultural, historical and people-to-people ties.
India continues to remain the largest source market for Sri Lanka’s tourism sector, reflecting the strong bond and mutual trust between the two countries. The Deputy Minister also acknowledged India’s consistent support during times of crisis, noting that New Delhi has often been among the first to extend assistance whenever Sri Lanka has faced natural disasters, conflicts or other challenges.
Emphasising resilience and recovery, Prof. Ranasinghe stated that Sri Lanka’s tourism attractions are once again vibrant and ready to offer memorable experiences. He expressed confidence that Indian travellers and the wider international community will continue to rediscover the island’s natural beauty, cultural richness and renowned hospitality in the months ahead.
